District Overview
Ruangwa is one of six districts of the Lindi Region of Tanzania.
It is bordered to the north by the Kilwa District, to the south by the Mtwara Region,to the east by Lindi rural District and to the west by the Nachingwea and Liwale District.
Area and Population
The total Area of Ruangwa district is 2,516 square kilometers, with population of 185,573 for the 2022 census.
Development
The district has an abundance of minerals and a huge agricultural potential.
Being in the Mozambique belt, the district has large deposits of graphite minerals and other commercially demanded minerals like gold, blue suphier, red and green gunnet, green stones,and white marble.
With the discovery of minerals, the area has seen an influx of people working in the sector. This has put a pressure on existing social amenities such as hotels, guest houses and lodges.
The road network in the district is rapid upgraded periodically, while the work on one of strategic road, the road linking Ruangwa to Mtwara region namely Nanganga - Ruangwa road, currently are being constructed to tarmac level.
Following an abundance of minerals and huge agricultural potential, and investment supportive infrastructure, expected to bring billions in investment that could transform the entire Ruangwa district economy.
